Chris Gampat

Self Portrait in Tan

I am what I call a “phoblographer“. I’ve worked for the likes of PCMagazine, Geek.com, Magnum Photos and others. My vision started declining when I was in High School. I can see better in my right eye than my left. While shooting, I sometimes take my glasses off to be able to see the world in two different perspectives: crystal clear (with everything in focus) and blurry except at a close range (which through my eyes actually looks a bit like the bokeh from a lens).

Photography, videography, writing and music are my lives.

Do you travel for speaking engagements? Am preparing a tactile Exhibit for the Muscarelle Museum at the College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, VA and am looking for an artist who is either blind or has low vision. Dates are open. Please write if you are interested. Your work is beautiful. Thanks, Shirley

Hi Apollo- Thanks, we’re talking about it.

Hi Shirley- As a college graduate I really don’t have the money to travel but I’m very flattered by the opportunity.

    Hi Chris,
my name is Gaia. I’m an Italian, 28 years old girl who moved to NYC 5 months ago.
Here I work as Associate Creative Director at an advertising agency and I’m a photographer too!
I’m contacting you because I’d like to realize an ambitious project of mine.

What I’d like to do is showing through photography how significant can be the point of view of a visually impaired. The project, I will probably entitle “Just another point of view”, would be a social reportage to sensitize people on visual impairment.

The core idea is that of spending one day together, walking around Manhattan (or wherever) taking photos with two different cameras. Whenever you feel like photographing something, basing your decision on your senses, I’ll try to take exactly the same photo. The result will be a double shooting of the City from these two different points of view. The photos might be accompanied by audio, written material as well as collected into a blog in order to reach and sensitize a largest number of people through the web.

So..if that is something you could feel like doing, please contact me! It will be terrific!
I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon!

    Many thanks,
    Gaia
