My New video: Face in the Crowd Address: http://tinyurl.com/29mxezb Description: I was about to delete some apparently uninteresting video clips of my wanderings around the city, when I realised that they were full of people’s faces that were anything but uninteresting. This has a special poignancy for me as someone with macular degeneration who cannot ordinarily recognise faces easily. Some of the pictures are appropriately out-of -focus and others have the effects of glare, which I deliberately haven’t altered. That’s pretty much how I’d see them, if I’d seen them. These people most likely didn’t know I was filming them, and I didn’t realise it either until afterwards! Once again, the camera lets me see things I wouldn’t otherwise see.
d The Featured Photograph is a regular series on Blind Photographers. Members of the community are invited to write or record personal context for one of their images. Today’s image comes from nightshooter09. This gentleman is a Junior Firefighter, in other words he is a firefighter in training. When I saw him close up and how young he actually is – selling flowers to raise funds for MY local fire department – I was totally humbled that a young man like this might risk his life one day to save someone such as myself. So there you have it: Hats off to firefighters (from my on-going “Hats Off Series”/set.) By the way, our son works with the firefighters and police as an EMT through Southwest EMS. For the service they provide each of us – often taken for granted, my hat’s off to them ALL.
“I know I am new, but I feel like the whole world has opened up to me through this group and photography.” This came to BP’s inbox today form one of our members. The photographer, bbrasley, has chronicled her transition into photography on her blog, Losing Vision Gaining Insight, in her post, Blind Photography. bbrasley write about how this community helped her find a new way to see the world: With the inspiration of the blindphotographers website, I began to create a digital world where I can see the beauty that I can no longer see in the “real” natural world. bbrasley goes on to show an example of how she uses Photoshop to find the real image buried in her pictures. The photo about, soft light crocus, was lost in the glare and noise when she snapped the original digital negative. Bringing that file into Photoshop and onto her large screen monitor, bbrasley was able to find this wonderful nugget. Thanks for sharing your story, bbrasley! Please go on to read about Blind Photography at Losing Vision Gaining Insight.
